A healthy ecosystem is biodiverse, consisting of a wide variety of different species. As the diversity of pollinator species rises, so does their capacity to support and be supported by a greater variety of plant species. When native plant species numbers grow, due to their crucial role as primary producers, the diversity of all other organisms within the ecosystem can also flourish.
Schoolyard naturalization involves transforming hardscaped schoolyards into more engaging, living landscapes that are inviting and intellectually stimulating places for children to play, offering opportunities for hands-on learning and serving as outdoor classrooms.
