BEST FOR GRADES 9 - 12
Students will understand the role and importance of pollinators for biodiversity, food production, ecosystem services, and ecological balance. They will gain a key insight into the main concepts of habitat restoration and will discuss ways of improving soils and choosing the right native plant species in urban environments. Students will use their knowledge to design pollinator gardens for their schools and backyards and take specific steps and actions to support pollinator habitats.
The program focuses on ecological perspectives, discussing biodiversity as critical for building resilient and healthy ecosystems but also involves social-economic and cultural perspectives by exploring the impact of human actions and attitudes affecting pollinator health, and human contributions to mitigate the loss of biodiversity. The program offers great research, stewardship and project-based learning opportunities.

CANADIAN REGISTERED CHARITY #848592010RR0001
As stewards of the earth, we have the responsibility to honour and respect the four directions, land, waters, plants, animals, and ancestors that walked before us, and all of the wonderful elements of creation that exist. Oakvillegreen respectfully acknowledges that our work with the community takes place within the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, represented by Treaty 14 and Treaty 22, and on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg (Ah-nish-in-nah-beg), Attawandaron (At-tah-wahn-da-ron), Haudenosaunee (Ho-den-oh-sho-nee) and Metis peoples. We honour these rightful caretakers of this sacred land surrounding the Great Lakes, and we are grateful for their teachings.
