PART A: BEST FOR GRADES K - 2 | PART B: BEST FOR GRADES 3 - 5
Students will learn about the importance of growing and caring for native trees. They will find out what trees need to survive, how they communicate, and how trees help and support each other. Students will choose a tree in their school community and will observe, investigate, and organize information about the chosen tree. Students will identify relationships between their tree and other organisms. They will make their own pledge of how to care for the chosen tree or contribute in other ways to the well-being of our urban forest.
The program deepens students’ connection to nature and provides a greater understanding and appreciation of their local environment. It offers great extensions, hands-on activities, and project-based learning opportunities.

As stewards of the earth, we have the responsibility to honour and respect the four directions, land, waters, plants, animals, and ancestors that walked before us, and all of the wonderful elements of creation that exist. Oakvillegreen respectfully acknowledges that our work with the community takes place within the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, represented by Treaty 14 and Treaty 22, and on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg (Ah-nish-in-nah-beg), Attawandaron (At-tah-wahn-da-ron), Haudenosaunee (Ho-den-oh-sho-nee) and Metis peoples. We honour these rightful caretakers of this sacred land surrounding the Great Lakes, and we are grateful for their teachings.
