Butterfly milkweed is a host-plant for Monarch butterflies. Female Monarchs search for milkweed plants on which to lay their eggs because monarch caterpillars (larvae) require milkweed to eat and grow! Butterfly milkweed produces lovely orange flowers and behaves well in an urban garden, unlike common milkweed, which is better suited to a naturalized area or meadow.
