Swamp milkweed is a host-plant for Monarch butterflies. Female Monarchs search for milkweed plants on which to lay their eggs because monarch caterpillars (larvae) require milkweed to eat and grow! Despite the name, swamp milkweed can tolerate dryer or clay soils and is not an aggressive spreader.
