Pollinator Demonstration Garden Stewards
Under a blanket of snow, just outside Glen Abbey Community Centre, lies the future home of Oakvillegreen’s ‘Pop-Up Pollinator Native Plant Demonstration Garden‘. We need a team of committed folks to help us transform this green desert into a thriving example of the beauty, ecological diversity and community building that can spring up from the simple act of planting native plants! We get it, monarch populations have dropped by 90% in the last 20 years, and that is just downright depressing. BUT we are sure that being involved in helping to create and maintain this garden will make you feel at least 90% better that you’ve helped to DO something about it! Oh, and if you can help us come up with a shorter name for this garden, that’d be great too.
Giant Community Garage Sale Helpers
Can you believe that Saturday May 23rd, 2015 is our 10th annual Giant Community Garage Sale? Transforming Town Hall parking lot into a dynamic market place of garage sale goodies, music, food and zero-waste and energy-conservation fun, is no small task! We are looking for at least 10 volunteers to help us with various activities on the day of this event. The Giant Community Garage Sale is our largest fundraising event – last year we had 80 vendors and at least 500 people in attendance!
Pollinator Kit Assembly and Distribution
Love native plants? Well, we’ll have a truck-full of native plants ALL arriving at the same time for our pollinator demonstration garden, our pollinator kits, or schoolyard naturalization projects and our tree sale! ALL this wonderful greenness will need to be unloaded, sorted and organized for pick-up on May 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th at the Town of Oakville greenhouse. If you can tell your oaks from birches, we’d especially love your help! But if plant identification makes your head spin, fear not, enthusiasm is all that is required, and we’ll make sure you can at least tell the difference between milkweeds and bluestems at the end of the day!
Communication and Website Super-Star
Do you crave creating crafty messages to help spread environmental awareness and share Oakvillegreen’s projects and upcoming events? Got web skills you want to show off? We are looking for some communication and website super-stars to help us share interesting environmental stories via blog posts, develop an Oakvillegreen naturalization on-line mapping tool and help share Oakvillegreen events and happenings with diverse audiences!
