A former journalist who has worked in Europe and Canada, Liz Benneian has been the full-time volunteer president of Oakvillegreen Conservation Association since 2005. While working in Europe, she became acutely aware of the negative impact humans were having on the health of the planet. Covering environmental stories on both sides of the pond, she became committed to doing what she could to make the planet healthier for her son and future generations.
With a degree in Science from the University of Toronto and with her experience in communications, Liz is an effective advocate for environmental protection, sustainable planning and building resilient communities. A poet, playwright, community advocate, history buff and outspoken environmentalist, Liz was awarded both the Individual Community Spirit Award and the Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellowship Award in 2007 for outstanding contributions to her community. Now living in the Niagara Region but still well-tied to Oakville, she continues to serve her “hometown” as President of Oakvillegreen. |
