Public Tree Planting & Ceremonial Event at Nautical Park
September 27 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pmFree
Join us at a public ceremonial event and tree planting on Wednesday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Nautical Park, located at 355 Nautical Blvd. in Oakville. This tree planting event has been generously supported by the CN EcoConnexions’ From the Ground Up Program, Tree Canada’s Tree to Our Nature, Canada 150 Legacy Program and Communities in Bloom.
The event will begin with remarks from Honourary Guests and include the planting of three commemorative trees. Local First Nations elder Stephen Paquette will speak to the significance of this Traditional Territory, the three trees chosen, and will do a Smudging Ceremony of the land. Oakville Mayor Rob Burton will also be speaking at the event. The commemorative trees include a White Cedar to represent First Nations, a Sugar Maple to represent Canada and a White Pine representing Ontario.
Community volunteers are invited to join in to help plant trees on Wednesday September 27th, 2017, from 10am-12noon and on Saturday, September 30, from 10 a.m. to 12noon. Both tree planting events are family-friendly and all are welcome. Approximately 1,500 trees and shrubs will be planted as a result of this project. If you are interested in volunteering to plant trees, please register yourself or your group here.
Both events are rain or shine. Volunteers should come dressed for the weather and for working in the dirt. Please visit our Tree Planting page for more tips to have a great tree planting experience.
