oaktreeIt is the goal of this website to build:
  • Awareness--to help you recognize current local issues.
  • Knowledge--to help you fully understand the environmental problem.
  • Attitudes--to help motivate you to participate in environmental improvement and protection.
  • Skills--to help you acquire the skills for identifying and solving environmental problems.
  • Participation--to provide you an opportunity to be actively involved in working toward resolution of environmental problems.

These are the fundamental principals of environmental education first set out in the Tbilisi Declaration (UNESCO) in 1977.

Oavillegreen.org will endeavour to bring you information about environmental issues affecting Oakville and the greater Halton Region. We will endeavour to identify ways in which you can help to make a difference and improve the environmental health of our community.   Please feel free to contact us with recommendations and ideas for how this website can help you. Your input is welcome.

How is this site organized

This site is still under development. Currently, we have divided the content of this site into the following sections:

  • Information about OAC: our history, membership and contact information can be accessed using  the top menu.
  • Information about issues, what's happening, and how you can help, along with a resource directory can be accessed via the main menu that runs down the left hand side.

The core of the site is embodied within the Learn about issues section. Here you will find articles that provide the background information and references to help you understand the environmental problems impacting our community. Our goal is to provide both general background information as well as specific case information on pressing issues.

We make every effort to provide you with information that is well founded, fair and accurate, and emphasizes the underlying science behind an issue. The North American Association for Environmental Education provides an excellent set of resource review criteria, please use these to assess our site as we use these criteria to construct articles.
